Local Teen Whitewater Kayaker Wins the Colorado River Gore Canyon Race

Jessie Bohn, a senior at Los Alamos High School, was the youngest competitor and had the fastest time in the women’s kayak division in the Gore Canyon Race held on Aug. 18, 2012.

Jessie also had the fastest women’s time down the course and was awarded “Queen of Gore Race 2012”.

The Gore Canyon Race is held every August on the the Class IV-V Section of Gore Canyon on the Colorado River near Kremmling, Colorado.

The down river race is for kayaks, rafts and any other river craft that can make it through the canyon’s rapids. The race is approximately five miles long and includes the Class IV and V rapids Gore, Pyrite, Tunnel Falls, and Kershbaum.

Thirty three river crafts competed in the race.

Jessie has been kayaking since she was eight years old and has been kayaking Gore Canyon since the age of fourteen. Jessie is a member of the Colorado Kayak Supply Women’s Squad Team.
