The 12-member Republican Party of Los Alamos delegation, elected Jan. 30 at the Los Alamos County Republican Pre-primary, attended the State Republican Pre-primary Convention Saturday.
Delegates from all 33 counties in New Mexico were represented at the Convention.
There were more than 500 delegates in person and more than 225 proxies comprising more than 750 votes cast in the only statewide race. This race was between David Clements and Allen Weh for U.S. Senate. Allen Weh, an Albuquerque business man and retired Marine Corps. colonel received 53.2 percent of the vote and David Clements, an attorney from Las Cruces received 46.8 percent.
Weh and Clements will now be on the June primary ballot and the winner will face Democratic Sen. Tom Udall in the November general election.
It was necessary to receive at least 20 percent of the vote to be eligible to be listed on the June ballot.
The delegates at the Convention also unanimously accepted the proposed Republican platform.
