Chamberfest Festivities Downtown Los Alamos Today!

The community is invited to come downtown 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today to enjoy music, dance, shop, dig in a giant sand pile, look at 4×4 vehicles, and explore other family-friendly entertainment.

Chamberfest is expected to draw more than 2,000 residents to the downtown area. Businesses and nonprofits utilize this opportunity to provide giveaways and games for attendees as well as sell merchandise and distribute information.

On Sunday, June 11, White Rock Presbyterian Church will celebrate 50 years of witness and service in White Rock and Los Alamos.

White Rock Presbyterian Church was chartered June 25, 1967. For four and a half years WRPC existed as a new church development project of the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. Photographer Gary Warren, formerly of Los Alamos, on a road trip with his wife Marilyn, just spent about two weeks in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He spotted this young Lakota woman performing a hoop dance, which is all about her life. She is 23 years old and uses one hoop for each year so she is dancing with 23 hoops. The massive carving underway in the background is the Crazy Horse Memorial. The Lakota Indians wanted to honor one of their leaders so they hired a sculptor from Boston to carve this memorial image out of the granite mountain (like Mt. Rushmore but on a much grander scale).
