Letter To The Editor: Vote For Wright For UNM-LA Adivsory Board

Los Alamos

I am writing today to endorse Dr. Andrew Wright for UNM-LA Advisory Board in the upcoming election.

When Dr. Wright came to work for me over a year ago, one question I asked him was “why do you want to work in Los Alamos?” He made it very clear early on that since he and his wife had relocated to Los Alamos, he had every intention of making this town not just a stopping point, but their home, and to serve his community in any way possible.
Time and again, he has proven that he continues to hold onto this value; serving the town through his nonprofit work, serving on the Arts in Public Places Board, and now in his commitment to serving UNM-LA as their newest advisory board member.
In addition to being committed to bettering the town he calls home, Andy has a deep understanding of and passion for higher education access, student wellbeing, and brings with him a knowledge of being both a student and an advisor to students from his time at the University of Texas in Austin, where he completed his graduate work.
During his time working in Los Alamos, he has created and carried out educational and professional development projects and workshops for the creative industries in Los Alamos and developed a deep rapport with those same creatives through his work with the Los Alamos Arts Council.
His commitment to our college bound employees includes taking time as more than just a manager, but also as a mentor, to advise them on college and financial aid applications, as well as resumes for work in their new fields.
Dr. Wright is the future of public servants. We need younger, highly skilled, and motivated people who are willing to tirelessly give of themselves to better the communities we all live in. His dedication to his community and his willingness to ensure higher education in Los Alamos is developed with a changing world in mind, which is what we all should expect from our elected officials. He understands the role ahead of him and is the right person for the job.
Please vote for Dr. Andrew F. Wright for UNM-LA advisory board. Thank you, and don’t forget early voting has already started.
Note: For the sake of transparency, Andy Wright is an employee of the Los Alamos Arts Council, of which I am the Executive Director. My opinions are my own and do not reflect those of my employer.
