2014 Los Alamos CROP Hunger Walk & Turkey Trot

The 2014 Los Alamos CROP Hunger Walk and Turkey Trot was a great success with 196 runners and walkers attending in spite of cool and very windy conditions.

Participants had a wonderful time with the random drawings of turkeys and pumpkin pies after the fun walk/run with time to chat with friends, colleagues and neighbors. The fundraiser ended up with $14,216 donated to the CROP Hunger Walk for emergency relief efforts, and hunger and poverty alleviation, with 25 percent of that amount plus an additional $200 donated to our LA Cares food bank.

We would like to give special thanks to our main sponsor, Lou Santoro’s State Farm Insurance Agency, as well as The Atomic City Road Runners. Thanks also to our other fabulous business sponsors, Eye Associates of
New Mexico, Hartway & Breshears, Los Alamos Medical Center, New Mexico Sinus Institute, Santa Fe Sports & Images, Smith’s Marketplace, USA Tae Kwon Do Masters Association, The Finishing Touch, Unitarian Church of Los Alamos, United Church of Los Alamos, Veterinary Cancer Clinic, Los Alamos Chiropractic & Sage Integrated Health, and Aspen Copies. Thanks for publicity from KRSN radio, Los Alamos Daily Post and the Los Alamos Monitor.

Thanks to the 3rd-6th graders who submitted logos for our logo contest. Sofia Enriquez was the winner of the contest, with Savanna Swanson in second place, and Kalen Melton in third place.

We could not pull off such a fantastic community fun walk/run without the help from our incredible organizational committee; Cynthia Biddlecomb and Paul Bradley, Wendee Brunish, Linda Burns, Jeanne Butler, Vince Chiravalle, Elisa Enriquez, Rosmarie Frederickson, June Gladney, Stan and Amy Kosiewicz, Liz Martineau and Ted and Joan Williams.

Thanks also to personal and team captain fundraising, who took it upon themselves to set up accounts through the main CROP Walk page, or rally a church or other group to participate.

Please mark your 2015 calendars for a 2 p.m. race start Nov. 22, the Sunday before Thanksgiving. If interested in volunteering with our organizational committee or to help set up a CROP Hunger Walk fundraising page next year, contact me at 505.661.9619.
