Letter to the Editor: Support For Holmes

As a resident of White Rock, I am not eligible to vote in the upcoming School Board election. Nevertheless, I would like to express my support for the candidacy of Nan Holmes in District 3.

I have worked closely with Nan in a variety of volunteer organizations for the past five years and still marvel at the depth of her commitment to the children of this community.

She is not only an advocate for children, she works tirelessly to provide opportunities for our children, both in and out of school, as well as caring deeply about them on an individual level. Nan knows that education is about more than buildings and test scores but also involves ensuring that all students feel valued and respected.

While almost everyone would agree with that sentiment, we also have to be honest enough to admit that we often fall short in that regard and Nan is the kind of person who is willing to ask the uncomfortable question, “How can we do better?”

Los Alamos is gifted with some of the finest students and teachers in New Mexico but we can be better and I trust that Nan’s vision and passion will help lead us there.
