Letter to the Editor: Spraying Herbicide Environmental Risk to Every Person, Pet, Wildlife and Beneficial Insect

I agree with Diana McPherson of White Rock regarding the county’s use of herbicides. Last year the county sprayed herbicide along the sidewalks at Western Area Park, a park well used by families and pet owners, killing not only the minimal amount of weeds that might have existed but all the grass bordering the sidewalk to within six inches.

The irony of this procedure is that it left the borders looking terrible and the weeds survived and came back during the summer sprinkling with a vengeance!

So not only was it a waste of chemical, time and taxpayer money, it was an environmental risk to every person, pet, wildlife and beneficial insect inhabiting the area.
