Letter To The Editor: Saudi Arabia, Iran And US Politics

Saudi Arabia:

Consider Saudi Arabia and the status of women:
  • It is the only country in the world where women can not drive.
  • The reason is the belief that driving injures a woman’s ovaries.
  • A male must drive a woman to work.
  • From age 8 to death a woman must wear a black burkah whenever she is outside the house in major cities like Riyahd, Mecca and Medina. In some smaller villages women may be able to uncover their faces, and may wear collorful head scarves.
  • Women are second, if not lower, citizens because of the Law of Guardianship.
  • A woman’s Guardian is oldest male in the family, e.g. father, husband, brother, or even a son.
  • A woman must receive her guardian’s permission to travel outside the country.
  • Her guardian keeps her passport.
  • A woman must receive her guardian’s permission to marry.
  • A woman who commits adultery can be stoned to death; the male who is with her may receive a sentence of lashes or even less.
  • The Quran allows a man to marry up to four wives; he also is allowed to divorce one by simply saying four times to each major direction, I DIVORCE YOU!

Consider that the USA supports this culture that is so vastly different from its culture. For example, Saudi Arabia is now the largest benefactor of US foreign aid, mostly military. During President Trump’s recent trip to Saudi Arabia, his son-in-law Jarred Kushner, brokered a $100 billion arms deal with the Saudis. Trump also castigated Iran and all other Shia majority countries.

Iran:

Now consider Iran, which has real elections and a culture far more similar to ours. Persia, the ancient empires centered in present-day, Iran is caucasian; ancient Persian and modern Farsi are direct descendenst of Sanscrit, the mother language of all Indo-European tongues, including English.

Now consider the Saudi war in Yemen; this is because of the Saudi-Iran/Sunny-Shia controversy that dates from the 7th century. The USA has provided the guns, ammo, bombs, planes, and even INTEL to help the Saudis; the only thing we don’t provide are the people to pull the triggers, fly the planes and release the bombs.

As Martin Luther King said in his speach on Viet Nam shortly before his assassination: “THE USA IS THE GREATEST PURVEYOR OF VIOLENCE IN THE WORLD.”
