Letter to the Editor: Reckless Driving?

By MICHAEL CARLSON
Los Alamos

I’m disappointed that some people in the community have not learned a lesson about poor behavior behind the wheel, given that one Los Alamos resident is dead and a motorist is facing criminal charges from an accident that occurred earlier this month.

I say this because a driver in a large Dodge 4×4 decided to pass me this evening (July 27) near the Totavi gas station on the way to Main Hill. I was driving about 50 miles per hour, which I assumed to be reasonable. I would estimate his speed to have been double. My mother and I watched as he tailgated another driver all the way to the old Smith’s. My only regret is that we didn’t call the police. We have the license plate number.

My question: What does it take to teach the motoring public some manners? Hopefully not another fatality in a pedestrian district.
