Letter To The Editor: Praise For Pajarito’s Community Approach

By JULIA BOWMAN
Los Alamos

I would like to express my gratitude to Pajarito Mountain for fostering an inclusive environment and nurturing Los Alamos’s long history of snow-centered community.

Among the things I appreciate about Pajarito is the openness to uphill travel during the ski season, be it hiking, snowshoeing, backcountry ski “skinning” and even occasional cross country skate skiing. This openness has supported a thriving corner of our Los Alamos community and makes Pajarito stand out from other ski resorts. Over the course of the season, talking with those folks who are slowly making their way up Pussycat becomes an opportunity to build connections, make friends, and celebrate whatever winter we have. Many of these people who enjoy the uphill are also season pass holders, regular trail volunteers for Pajarito, and mountain bike season pass purchasers.

The flexibility and openness Pajarito has shown—including their pet-friendly approach—demonstrates their understanding of what makes our community special.

This season has presented unique challenges for maintaining operations—both to open early and stay open. I want to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of all Pajarito staff and volunteers who make it possible for us to enjoy our mountain, whether traveling uphill or down. Your work has not gone unnoticed!

Thank you, Pajarito Mountain, for welcoming all types of mountain enthusiasts.
