Los Alamos
Thanks Pete for your letter to the editor on why we DO need a Sheriff! I have been feeling like I was a voice in the wilderness on this issue, and you composed it so well – folks need your perspective.
Los Alamos, as you know, is my hometown, and we have had a Sheriff for as long as I am able to remember. When I was small, the Sheriff had many more duties and responsibilities than today. My dad was a member of the mounted Sheriff’s Posse and they were called all over the state for rescue work.
When I was older, I became a member of the Junior Sheriff’s Posse. We learned the need for awareness and many protection techniques in our community. We also perfected our horsemanship and performed square dancing on horseback in most NM county parades, the State Fair and its Parade, even on Albuquerque’s TV station KOB.
Thanks again!
