Mr. Pearson’s letter about the pedestrian crossing at Diamond and Sycamore gives all drivers the message that they need to stop at all cross walks and stop signs especially when pedestrians are crossing. However, if the county painted cross walk stripes at all stop signs, it would be an added expense that we shouldn’t need.
Drivers and pedestrians should all be courteous at these crossings by doing the following:
- Drivers should always stop at intersections, whether there are crosswalks marked or not, and be aware of pedestrians.
- Pedestrians should not automatically walk into crosswalk/intersections without pausing to look for vehicles. There should be no assumption that the driver of a bicycle, motorcycle or other vehicle has seen you.
The solution lies not with making the county responsible, but with being responsible drivers and pedestrians ourselves.
