I worked closely with District Court Judge Greg Shaffer when he was General Counsel and I was Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration (DFA).
DFA’s workload includes a wide variety of legal challenges and an extensive amount of interaction with other agencies and local and tribal governments. The work is highly challenging, due to the volume, the technical difficulty and the interpersonal skills required to enable collaboration and cooperation among many different entities.
Greg excelled in this role. He consistently produced timely, high-quality legal work; provided thoughtful, sympathetic support of the missions of other agencies and governments and found creative solutions to problems that sometimes seemed unsolvable. Greg’s work elevated the performance of many of us who relied upon him. We need talented, professional, and hard-working judges like Greg, which is why I recommend him for Division II.
