I can’t breathe. Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing combines shock, sadness and terror in my being.
She was an extraordinary gift to this world and gave her life to fight for and hold on to what’s right and fair.
The creature McConnell has massaged a compliant Republican Party into an authoritarian cult vs a political party working for the betterment of all people in a Democracy.
In 2016, McConnell said, “The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice,” well before the election, and 342 days before the 2017 inauguration.
But in the typical hypocritical fashion we’ve grown to expect from him, two hours after the death of Justice Ginsburg, 47 days before the election and 124 days prior to the 2021 inauguration, he said, “President Trump’s nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate,” short-cutting the critical review and exploration process in the middle of pandemic, a polarized Country and the most important election this Country may have ever experienced.
There was no reason but politics at its worst for the lengthy delay through 2016, just as there’s no reason but ugly polarizing politics for a rush-to-vote process today.
Any Senator who supports this perversion of politics in our Democracy clearly fears what the people will say in November.
Even more frightening is any Supreme Court candidate who willingly participates in this debacle.
