Letter To The Editor: Don’t Let Shelter Animals Suffer

By BRYAN BENNETT

It is a true shame that the Friends of the Shelter and the County could not come to terms (link).

The level of help and support that FOS has provided to the shelter, and to the animals housed there, is immeasurable. Besides the visible services such as dog walking and kennel cleaning the FOS volunteers have fostered hundreds of animals too young, weak or sick to be adopted, caring for them until they were ready to find a forever home; provided behavior assessment and rehabilitation to animals; provided transport for animals to area vets, including emergency transport to and from the urgent care clinic in Santa Fe; donated food, toys, bedding and supplies and much, much more.

I wish the County well in finding other volunteers to fill these roles, I just hope that the pets do not suffer because of this parting of ways.
