Letter to the Editor: Compassion And Generosity Greatly Appreciated

Alison Pannell, Chair
Rotary Purple Pinkie Day

The recent painting of Purple Pinkies to promote participation in Polio prevention was a wonderful success with all our school students joining in the fun. The Rotary Club of Los Alamos would like to extend a grateful thank you to the Los Alamos community, LAPS and local businesses that supported our recent initiative to increase awareness about Polio.

We would especially like to thank Gene Schmidt, Superintendent of LAPS, who welcomed our idea and encouraged all his Principals to support us. In turn, the Principals allowed us to hang posters, distribute flyers and permission slips, set up tables and inform their staff. The teachers and staff at all the schools could not have been more helpful and pleasant and ensured that everything flowed correctly and smoothly.

Thanks are also due to LAMC who donated the Gentian Violet and purple gloves for our messy work. Aspen Copies facilitated the printing of posters and permission slips. And a big thank you goes the the Los Alamos Daily Post that covered all our steps along the way and helped increase awareness in the whole community.

In closing, let me reiterate our Club’s thanks for your support and the opportunity to combine a community event with our students. The compassion and generosity in supporting this effort was greatly appreciated.
