Letter To The Editor: Christine Chandler Is A Dedicated, Intelligent Leader Looking Out For Our Best Interests…

Dear Los Alamos Residents,

I am writing to voice my support for Christine Chandler. I first remember meeting Christine in the context of the League of Woman Voters as my wife and I enjoyed several of the educational forums sponsored by the League. Christine struck me as a clear, effective organizer at the League.

My most recent interaction with Christine was in the context of Los Alamos County’s involvement in the Carbon Free Power Project; a project that may result in our county investing in a Small Modular Reactor with economic consequences impacting the county for 40 years or more. I was drawn to the project out of my personal interest in transitioning our community off fossil fuel and toward non-carbon-based options. What I was not prepared for was the legal complexity of the accompanying agreement.

The discussion at the Public Utility Board hearings advanced into topics of purchase agreements, “take-or-pay,” off-ramps with various consequences, what was guaranteed and what was non-legally binding rhetoric.

As the conversation advanced and my confusion increased, I became grateful that Christine was there. She asked probing questions that clarified the issues. To me it was clear that Christine had done her homework and was looking out for the best interests of our community. She is a dedicated, intelligent leader.

My family and I have resided in Los Alamos for 20 years. I am grateful that Chris is interested in continuing to represent us at the NM State House.
