Letter To The Editor: Biggest Thanks Goes To Community

It was a glorious day! The 2019 4th of July Celebration at Overlook Park was so blessed. The 2018 drought made us worry about the future of fireworks; but 2019 brought big snows, plenty of rain, stunning wildflowers, and set us up for a splendid evening at Overlook Park.

When we saw LAFD unfurl the huge flag at the park entrance, we really got excited.

While the dedication of the fireworks team in Kiwanis might be obvious, much of the community is behind the event long before the first roasted corn, Frisbee toss, or glowstick.

We would like to thank our presenting sponsor, Enterprise Bank. Other major sponsors include RE/MAX and 999 Central. Several other community partners provided support including Century Bank, Techsourse, Hartway & Breshears, Zia Credit Union, Holiday Inn Express, Los Alamos Children’s Dentistry, Lisa Shin Optometrist and Gateway Mortgage.

Special thanks our our friends at Franks Supply for delivering the quiet and powerful generator that kept the Bouncy Toys going. We appreciate all our vendors for keeping the crowd nourished and refreshed. Next time you see them at Ashley Pond remember to say “thanks”.

The Community Winds gave us classic Independence Day music and Sim Balkey got us dancing and “making some noise”.

As the magic time approached, Overlook Park started to feel like everyone in Los Alamos was there. Even so, the evening progressed without a hitch. That wouldn’t happen without the major efforts from Los Alamos County and Public Safety. Traffic Division kept everyone moving better than before and Atomic City Transit got us in and out of the park with ease.

Special thanks to Alex and the Overlook Park team. LA Police was able to help many and the Fire Department ensured the evening was safe.

Finally, thank you all the dedicated Kiwanians for your time and energy. You continually demonstrate your dedication to the people of Los Alamos and the community of Northern New Mexico. You make this event possible.

The biggest thanks of all goes to you – the community. You make this a wonderful place to live. You come together – join together – to make living here a treasure of the best America has to offer. The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos hopes you will make plans now to be at Overlook next year. We’ll have a fantastic fireworks display. But we know that’s not why we celebrate the 4th of July. We live in America – and that’s worth celebrating.
