Letter To The Editor: The Problem With Local Vacant Buildings

By BOB BOURQUE

The problem with vacant commercial buildings is that they are vacant.

The first priority should be to get them filled. Many complain about excessive rents.

I suspect this is due to the dominance of LANL and Kroger. Perhaps the County can take some of the ample sums provided by LANL to give tax incentives, or even subsidies, to businesses who want to fill those vacant eyesores.

Perhaps the County can even purchase these buildings thus providing it with rental income.
