RESOLUTION NO. 21-31

Notice is hereby given that pursuant to Subsection A of 1-3-8, NMSA 1978, upon the adoption of any resolution creating, abolishing, dividing, or consolidating any precinct, or changing any precinct boundary, or changing any designated polling place, the County Council shall publish once the resolution in a newspaper as provided in the Election Code.

A full copy of Incorporated County of Resolution No. 21-31, including attachments of the precinct map and boundary descriptions, is available for inspection or purchase, during regular business hours, in the County Clerk’s Office, located at 1000 Central Avenue, Suite 240. INCORPORATED COUNTY OF LOS ALAMOS RESOLUTION NO. 21-31

A RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION 21-09; ADJUSTING PRECINCT BOUNDARIES IN THE INCORPORATED COUNTY OF LOS ALAMOS, NEW MEXICO

WHEREAS, pursuant to Subsection A of 1-3-5, NMSA 1978, the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos (“County Council”) is required, by Resolution, to create, divide, abolish, combine or adjust the boundaries of any precincts, as necessary, to meet legal and constitutional requirements for redistricting; and

WHEREAS, pursuant to NMSA 1978, Section 1-3-1, a precinct shall be divided, or its boundaries adjusted, if the precinct has had more than seven hundred fifty (750) votes cast by voters of that precinct at a general election based on the two most recent general elections; and

WHEREAS, on June 29, 2021, County Council adopted Incorporated County of Los Alamos Resolution No. 21-09; A Resolution Adjusting Precinct Boundaries in the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, New Mexico, as required pursuant to Subsection A of 1-3-5 and 1-3-1, NMSA 1978, attached hereto as Attachment “A”; and

WHEREAS, upon further review and based on recommendations from Research & Polling, Inc., it has been determined that additional boundary adjustments are needed between Precinct 1 and Precinct 9. This amendment will allow the New Mexico Legislature to use the new boundary line as a portion of the dividing line between the proposed Senate District 5 and Senate District 6. The revised Los Alamos County Precinct Map and descriptions attached to the Resolution, show the outcome of these modifications. This modification, along with those adopted under Incorporated County of Los Alamos Resolution No. 21-09, will not take effect until January 1, 2022, and will be used for the 2022 / 2023 Election Cycle. In early 2022, the County Clerk’s Office will send a mailing, to those affected voters, explaining the precinct adjustments; and

WHEREAS, the Los Alamos County Precincts Maps, along with the written precinct boundary descriptions, attached hereto as Attachment “B”, showing the outcome of these modifications, shall be filed for permanent record in the Office of the County Clerk.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos that The Precinct Adjustments in Los Alamos County are hereby designated on the Los Alamos County Precinct Maps; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that pursuant to the provisions of the New Mexico Election Code, and on behalf of the County Council, County Clerk Naomi D. Maestas shall notify the New Mexico Secretary of State, in writing, of the changes in precincts made by the County Council and shall furnish the current geographical boundaries, designation, and word description for each precinct.
