Zachary Dreicer-Griego
The Los Alamos Opera Guild of the Santa Fe Opera will hold a “Leap Into Opera” event from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at 135 La Senda Road in White Rock. Light refreshments wi1 be served.
The program features a concert by the remarkable young pianist Zachary Dreicer-Griego. He is the son of Jarad and Janet Dreicer of Dixon, NM.
Dreicer-Griego is an amazing young man who has developed his talent without reading music. He is blind and learns even the most difficult pieces by listening to music.
Dreicer-Griego has studied piano since he was four years old with Juanita Madland. His program includes two Chopin Preludes, opus 2g, numbers 4 and 15, Bach’s English suite, several Mozart pieces and one of his own compositions.
A busy student at Los Alamos High School, he also works at Espanola’s bilingual radio station KDCE 650 AM and keeps up with the many farm activities at his home. He enjoys hiking and computers and maintains an active Facebook page and contributes “tweets” on Twitter.
But his greatest skill and enjoyment comes from composing for the piano. He plans to attend UNM-LA next year and continue with his piano studies.
Dreicer-Griego’s advice to other young pianists and musicians is quite simple: practice, practice, practice!” … which he does daily.
The Los Alamos Opera Guild of the Santa Fe Opera was founded in 1952 and was the first organized guild to support the Santa Fe opera. This guild has always encouraged and supported young musicians.
