Friday, Oct. 25 a celebration of music from the 60s will take place with two barbershop choruses at the United Church of Los Alamos. The Lasses and Lads of Enchantment along with the Santa Fe Harmonizers will present a variety of songs to celebrate, reflect and remember times gone by.

The songsters invite the community to enjoy a show that will boost the mood, and in at least one case have the audience singing along.

The Friday show is 7 p.m. at the United Church of Los Alamos and a second show at 2 p.m. Saturday in Santa Fe will take place at St. John’s United Methodist Church.

After each show, the chorus members hold a second gathering called, The Afterglow. A small donation is requested that buys a drink, small sandwich, chips, plus some impromptu singing of quartets for those  who haven’t had enough.

“Celebrate the 60s” director, Maurice Sheppard, highlighted what is ahead for the upcoming show. “We will share and remember the creativity and intensity of the music against the backdrop of the turbulent and exciting events and accomplishments of the 60s, and it will be groovy.”

The extravaganza will feature music from the combined choruses, three quartets from within the chorus and a special guest quartet named, Sophisticated Gentleman. The guest quartet travels to us from Albuquerque, where last week they returned from the Rocky Mountain District Contest, in Cheyenne, WY. There, they qualified for the 2024 International Senior Quartet competition in New York City.

“Our Music Director Maurice Sheppard really raised the bar with this set of songs,” LALOE President John Baillie said “He has close to 40 singers from the Lasses and Lads of Enchantment and the Santa Fe Harmonizers, and the result is going to be awesome.”

The community is invited to enjoy friendship, remembrance and some sensational songs. Tickets are available at the door or by calling 505.660.0484. Prices are $15 for adults, $5 for students and children 13 and under are free.

The United Church is at 2525 Canyon Road, drinks and cookies are free during intermission.
