LARSO News:

Abbey Hayward of the Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization (LARSO), which operates the Betty Ehart and White Rock Senior Centers, has been named Employee of the Quarter.

The project was created by a suggestion from member John Baillie and a small grant from the Los Alamos Community Foundation to boost employee morale in the pandemic.

Hayward oversees the Los Alamos Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and the Los Alamos Volunteer Association. Her work, and the work of her volunteers has kept the senior centers going and benefitted many community projects throughout the pandemic.

“Hayward, and her husband Robert arrived here during the pandemic and hit the ground running,” LARSO Executive Director Bernadette Lauritzen said. “Human Resources Director Amy Vigil and I prayed she would give us a year because she is so overqualified for our program. Now she is family, and we hope she stays forever.”

The Hayward family will begin their own family here in Los Alamos in March. The centers will host a small baby shower for them in February and if COVID conditions continue, will make it a drive by event so the Haywards can feel the love of this community with their family so far away.

As Employee of the Quarter, Hayward will receive a $100 gift card to a local small business, so the gift continues to build throughout the community.

“The senior center staff morale fund continues as we enter the 22nd month of the pandemic,” Lauritzen said.
