Large Solar Power Dedication In Springer Tuesday

  • USDA Rural Development Funds Seven Acre Project

ALBUQUERQUE – USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner announced today that 3rd District Rep. Ben Ray Luján will join him and the management of the Springer Electric Cooperative to celebrate the completion of construction of a $14 million solar power project.

The event is 10 a.m., Tuesday at the Springer Electric Cooperative Sub-Station one mile north of exit 441 on the I-25 east frontage road.

Funding for the project, provided by USDA Rural Development, also includes the expansion and upgrade of 74 miles of electric line and system. Some $3.4 million of the $14 million loan was used to construct the one mega-watt solar power generation facility located just north of Springer.

The upgrade of the electric system operated by the Springer Electric Cooperative will provide better service to its customers in all areas of the distribution system. Springer Electric Cooperative serves the New Mexico counties of Colfax, Harding, Mora, San Miguel and Union, including the communities of Cimarron, Maxwell, Roy, Wagon Mound, Mosquero and Folsom. The Cooperative also provides wholesale power to the Town of Springer municipal electric system.
