LAPS Ponders Storing Firearms On Campus

Los Alamos Police Chief Dino Sgambellone approached the LAPS Board of Education during a special session Thursday evening to discuss the idea of storing firearms on campus at Los Alamos Middle School and Los Alamos High School. He explained that this is a new trend in police procedure in light of shooting incidents across the country. His School Resource Officers brought back this idea from a recent training program they attended in which it was explained that having weapons secured on campus saves precious time when lives are at stake due to an active shooter. The Board directed Superintendent Dr. Kurt Steinhaus to meet with the chief and look into the matter further. Photo by Bonnie J. Gordon/ladailypost.com
