Los Alamos Superintendent of Schools

With reluctance, I accepted Paula Dean’s retirement letter this morning. Ms. Dean has served Los Alamos Public Schools for the past 10 years in a variety of positions.

In announcing her retirement, Ms. Dean stated that she will finish out this school year. She was first hired as Director of Curriculum and Development – a position she held for three years.

She also served as Principal of Barranca Mesa Elementary for four years and, more recently, Assistant Superintendent for the past three years.

Over these many years, Ms. Dean championed achievement for all students and is credited for promoting meaningful professional development for staff.

On the school policy front, Ms. Dean worked closely with the School Board to update and keep current our Policies and Regulations.

She is recognized throughout the state for her understanding of Common Core and has been actively engaged in the New Mexico Teach “effective teacher/leader” pilot.

In addition, she was instrumental in the district’s efforts to achieve AdvancED Accreditation. Join with me in thanking Paula Dean for helping to make Los Alamos a better place.

Ms. Dean will be recognized at the district’s end of year retirement party.
