 LAPS News:

The Los Alamos School Board unanimously approved the operating budget for 2013-14 at the Thursday, May 23 meeting of the School Board.

Next year’s budget placed a high priority on the Board’s desire to raise student achievement to an even higher level. Professional development funding for staff was increased to train staff in Common Core and to train K-12 staff in the new math adoption.

In addition, the budget provided a two percent salary increase for staff and added an extra work day to staff contracts.

In other business, the Board approved a Trinity Site Master Ground Lease Agreement with the Los Alamos County that increased the district’s percent of the rent when the Trinity Site retail center is opened.

The Board also approved a LANL request to use school facilities for their 70th Anniversary Celebration later this summer.

The meeting closed with a recognition ceremony for Assistant Superintendent Paula Dean, who announced her retirement earlier this spring. Jim Hall, President of the School Board, presented Dean with a commemorative plaque in honor of her years of service.
