LANL’s Schoonover Presents ‘Countering Emerging Threats and Creating New Opportunities’ Tuesday

Jon R. Schoonover, PhD, LANL Program Director Emerging Threats Office is the guest speaker for the May 20 dinner meeting of the Major General Franklin E. Miles Chapter 229 of The Military Order of the World Wars in the main meeting room at the Los Alamos Research Park.

Schoonover will talk on “Countering Emerging Threats and Creating New Opportunities.”

The MOWW meeting will begin with a social period at 6 p.m., followed by a brief business meeting and dinner at 6:25 p.m., and Schoonover’s presentation will begin at about 7:15 p.m.

The Military Order of the World Wars dinner meetings are open to interested citizens for the dinner and program with RSVP, or the program only at no cost.

The Los Alamos Research Park building is at 4200 West Jemez Road, west of the West Jemez Road Fire Station. Parking is available east of the fire station from the Los Alamos Canyon Bridge or along the curb-parking zone (restricted during work hours) east of the Research Park building – access to the curb parking is through the LANL access control stations to West Jemez road. Entrance to the 2nd floor dinner meeting room is from the ground level by use of the ground level elevator.

The Hot Rocks Java Cafe staff is catering the dinner; entrée is ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­expected to be salmon filet with appropriate sides. Cost of the dinner is $25 per person. Please note that a dinner reservation made is a commitment to the chapter to pay for the reserved dinner(s). The Military Order of the World Wars was chartered by Act of Congress in 1919 as a national patriotic organization. The principal objectives of the MOWW are continuing service to the Nation, support for the Nation’s Defense and Homeland Security policies, and patriotic educational opportunity for the nation’s youth and citizens. Current youth programs are focused upon annual Youth Leadership Conferences for high school students presented in New Mexico by its related Sunbelt Patriotic Youth Leadership Conferences, Inc. Current, former and retired federally commissioned officers of all branches of the United States Uniformed Services are eligible for membership in the MOWW and are especially invited to attend our meetings.
