- 2015 Student Mentor Picnic lives up to expectations; thrives on cheap summertime student energy
The nearly limitless energy source that is student enthusiasm for games, music, and shirking real work, was successfully harnessed this afternoon, June 9 in Urban Park. The event was a fantastic success.
A live DJ performance was provided by the incendiary Kap’n Kirk, and brought “sweet summer jams” to the summer fiesta. Mentors and students threw frisbees, lounged in the grass, and lost track of time in the name of the time honored Student Mentor Picnic.
It was refreshing to discover that such a hallowed event could still garner so much zeal. Whether it was leaping onto a slack line or dancing or garrulously sharing a joke or two, a good time was sure to be found this sunny afternoon in Los Alamos.
“COME, I will make the continent indissoluble;
I will make the most splendid race the sun ever yet shone upon;
I will make divine magnetic lands,
With the love of comrades,
With the life-long love of comrades.
I will plant companionship thick as trees along all the rivers of
America, and along the shores of the great lakes, and all over
I will make inseparable cities, with their arms about each other’s
By the love of comrades,
By the manly love of comrades.
For you these, from me, O Democracy, to serve you, ma femme! 10
For you! for you, I am trilling these songs,
In the love of comrades,
In the high-towering love of comrades.”
