LANL Foundation Opens College Scholarship Applications

LANL Foundation News:

ESPAÑOLA – Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation is now accepting applications for its  four-year undergraduate scholarship awards.

While high school seniors are the primary audience, undergraduate students pursuing a bachelor’s degree at an accredited, post-secondary educational institution are encouraged to apply as well.

“This year, we are excited to reach a historic milestone for awarding $10 million to over 2,000 students since the scholarship’s inception in 1998,” said LANL Foundation Scholarship Program Manager Mike Ammerman. “The demand for scholarships to offset the rising cost of higher education is greater than ever, and we are grateful to our community of donors and supporters who make these scholarships possible. Whether a student aspires to be a teacher, healthcare provider, scientist or entrepreneur, we offer scholarships to help make their dream of earning a college degree without being saddled by debt a real possibility.”

Awards range from $1,000 up to $20,000 for students from Northern New Mexico pursuing undergraduate degrees in any field of study. Eligible applicants are automatically considered for any and all applicable scholarship opportunities. Applicants are evaluated based on academic merit, demonstrated leadership, and a commitment to service. Certain awards have additional criteria, including financial need, specific fields of study, Native American and Hispanic ancestry, resiliency and determination, and affiliation with designated schools, programs and communities.

2021 Gold Scholarship recipient Britney Hsu of Taos is studying bioscience and business at Rice University. She said that the LANL Scholarship is paramount to her goals empowering her to pursue higher education that will help her become a physician neuroscientist.

“The LANL Scholarship allows me to focus on my studies, enroll in challenging courses and engage in neuroscience,” Hsu said. “Only through this education will I be able to work towards an MD-PhD degree for my goals. I will work with Northern New Mexico health facilities and other institutions worldwide. I will have the opportunity to move forward in my career, to give back and to create change.”

The application deadline is Jan. 18, 2021. For more information, click here.
