Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration’s (DOE/NNSA) Los Alamos Field Office has issued a Floodplain Statement of Findings for the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Project at Technical Area 39 at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos County (Statement of Findings) based on the February 2021 Floodplain Assessment.
DOE/NNSA’s Proposed Action is the replacement of a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) unit approximately 50 feet north of structure 39-0097 on a currently paved area at Los Alamos National Laboratory within the Ancho Canyon 100-year floodplain.
The current HVAC unit is nonfunctional; thus, replacement is necessary to stabilize temperatures inside structures 39-0097 and 39-0088.
DOE/NNSA has reevaluated the Proposed Action and found that there are no alternatives that would locate the Proposed Action outside a floodplain and identified mitigation measures that would avoid or minimize impacts to the floodplain.
DOE/NNSA did not receive any public comments during the 15-day Floodplain Assessment public review and comment period. Upon completion of the Proposed Action the floodplain will retain the same values and functions as present prior to replacement of the HVAC unit.
The Statement of Findings can be accessed online here.
