Vest Orthodontics and the Los Alamos Middle School PTO teamed up for tricks and treats, as the month of October came to an end.
Principal Rex Kilburn, with a little help from his Parent Teacher Organization and Vest Orthodontics teamed up for some fundraising fun, all in the name of education. The fundraiser was a no selling, no door to door, no hassle attempt to fill some coffers without the pressures of sales competition with scouts, elementary aged kids and more.
PTO members asked families to give a little or give a lot and see what success they might achieve with little to no effort, during a time when life already seems to take too much effort. The result was an attempt at raising approximately $13,000 and thanks to Dr. Vest of Vest Orthodontics, they are on their way.
Vest, is no stranger to supporting youth both in the community, and on their road to perfecting their pearly whites.
“I hope that because of the support he has given my students that he sees a rise in new patients,” Kilburn said. “Your support of the middle school is very much appreciated.”
Vest donated some 600 sling bags, a stylish bag toted by teens of the new millennium, as an incentive for families to join in the fun. Several of the bags held certificates for a chance to bombard Kilburn with a pie. As seventh and eighth grade students and staff piled into the gym, Kilburn took his position, at the ready.
“The event was quick and fast and before I knew it I was getting slammed in the face with a whip cream pie,” he said.
As always, Kilburn is ready and waiting for the next time to help his Hawks succeed and to help him out, the PTO has extended their donation collection until Nov. 18. Donations can be mailed to, 1 Hawk Dr., with fundraiser written in the memo line.
