LAMOA News:

The Los Alamos Museum of Art (LAMOA) has been offered a unique and substantial collection of Tribal African and Oceanic art, including more than 900 pieces of authentic tribal masks, sculptures, votive and domestic works of art.

“These are not tourist market art pieces,” LAMOA President Board Ruth Tatter said. “These are authentic works used in dances and tribal life that would be coveted by any major museum and will attract a large national audience.”

The museum also has been promised collections of more than 350 local, regional and national works of art on the condition that it occupies a suitable building to exhibit them.

“We need to find a place for LAMOA in our Downtown Master Plan,” Tatter said. “National research shows that museums are drivers of local economy.”

The Los Alamos Museum of Art is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and, according to its business plan, will use its collections to attract visitors to Los Alamos and provide the community with first-hand educational experiences not found elsewhere in the central Southwest.
