The American Hospital Association has named Los Alamos Medical Center CEO Feliciano Jiron its 2016 Grassroots Champion.

Jiron has received a string of honors and awards lately and the New Mexico State Hospital Association nominated him for the 2016 Grassroots Champion Award.

“You have earned this special recognition through your dedication to the hospital mission, on both the state and national level,” stated AHA President/CEO Rick Pollack in a letter to Jiron. “We thank you and share our deep appreciation for all that you do every day.”

Each year, the AHA, in conjunction with state hospital associations, recognizes the achievements of grassroots leaders with the prestigious Grassroots Champions Award. One hospital leader from each state is honored for his or her work over the previous year in effectively delivering the hospital message to elected officials; helping to broaden the base of community support for hospitals and advocating tirelessly on behalf of patients, hospitals and communities.

“Feliciano’s expertise in hospital operations paired with his knowledge of the local community and desire for excellence makes him an ideal recipient for this award,” said Victor Giovanetti, president of LifePoint Health’s Western Group, which includes Los Alamos Medical Center. “A respected and accomplished leader, Feliciano continues to advance Los Alamos with his visionary leadership, commitment to quality, and passion for serving others. He truly exemplifies the mission of making communities healthier, and we are proud to have him as part of our organization.”

Jiron first learned of the award last month while on vacation with his family. He received a telephone call advising him that he had been selected.

“I am so honored to be recognized for this national award and very grateful to have this wonderful job where I get to work with incredible staff in our mission to serve the people of this great community,” Jiron said.

LAMC staff celebrated with him Tuesday afternoon in a special gathering at the hospital. Staff members took turns shaking Jiron’s hand and congratulating him, saying the honor is “well deserve”.

Jiron’s wife Johanna spoke about her husband’s award with the Los Alamos Daily Post.

“I am beyond proud of him and the work he does at LAMC and as a loving father and husband,” she said. “This honor shows that hard work and perseverance really does pay off … I am so excited for him.”

Jiron will formally receive his award during an upcoming event.
