With a couple weeks of lessons under our belts, we reflect on the whirlwind that starting Los Alamos Music Academy (LAMA) has been.
Wasn’t it just this past July that the idea was formed? In 3 months, we’ve taken that idea, turned two empty conference rooms in an underutilized building into lesson labs and a retail space, and enrolled over 20 students. Thank you to everyone who has joined us and supported us in this musical adventure!
That said, we have room for more students on all instruments. So, in order to fill our classes, we are hosting an Open House 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6. All of our current students and parents are welcome, as we will discuss who we are and how we came together, how we are running things and why, expansion plans for our business and for other rooms in the building, and our retail endeavor. We would also like to hear the needs, wants, and ideas of the Los Alamos music community.
What courses should we offer? Are there age groups/instruments that are over/under represented? What products should we stock and sell? What store hours are convenient for the public? To try to get people in the door, we will have a drawing for a few door prizes, including a free month of lessons in any class we offer!
Our retail space will also be expanding. LAMA will continue to offer accessories related to guitar, ukelele, and general music making (things like metronomes, cables, microphones, headphones, music stands), a small selection of instruments (guitars, ukeleles, and keyboards), and various music books (mostly for the classes we teach). What’s more, we will begin to have regular store hours, and regular (weekly) deliveries from Candyman so you can get what you need, when you need it. Expect the retail side to be fully fledged by the Holidays.
As we’ve grown, so has our vision and mission. The Los Alamos Music Academy wants to be our community’s music resource, plain and simple. There are many musicians in our small town with diverse needs, tastes, and backgrounds. But, we all need equipment and we all want to make music. LAMA wants to help facilitate that effort. Send us a message on the “contact” page and tell us what you like or how we can improve.
