LALT Parking Lot To Close For Renovations Starting June 9

COUNTY News:

Beginning Monday, June 9, access to the parking lot at the Los Alamos Little Theatre (LALT) Performing Arts Center Building at 1670 Nectar St. will be closed to the public for renovations.

Los Alamos County Public Works, Capital Projects & Facilities Division officials explain that the closure will allow a much-needed health and safety-focused renovation project to begin, aimed at improving the fire safety response time in case of emergency. The project also includes abatement of asbestos containing materials from the ceilings and flooring in the building.

The County secured the services of R & M Construction, LLC, for installation of a Fire Suppression System, and Southwest Hazard Control, Inc., for asbestos abatement services.

The Los Alamos Little Theatre Fire Suppression Project will result in significant improvements and enhancements that will be performed in accordance with applicable OSHA and EPA regulations. Installation of a new fire sprinkler system that meets modern building and fire code requirements will provide occupants more time to safely evacuate from the building in case of a fire emergency.

“We’re excited to get this project going to improve the safety of our Performing Arts Center. We also understand the importance of minimizing disruption to adjacent services during this project. Our Capital Projects team will work diligently to ensure that the project is completed efficiently and with minimal disturbance to the neighboring private properties and public amenities,” said Sobia Sayeda, Capital Projects and Facilities Project manager.

The project is scheduled for completion by the end of October.
