The New Mexico High School Coaches Association nominated Kathy and Rob Hipwood for this national honor.  All nominees and eight finalists were evaluated by experts in the field of coaching using a sport-specific rubric to assign points in the categories of longevity, service to high school athletics, honors, championship years and winning percentage.

In addition to serving on various state committees for their sport, the Hipwoods have been co-head coaches for 20 years, have a 95 percent win-loss record, and have won 15 state titles in girls’ cross country.

The NHSACA is the oldest coaches association in the nation formed by coaches, for coaches, and has been recognizing national coaches of the year since 1978.
