SPORTS News:

It was a great day for Los Alamos High School Cross Country at Saturday’s New Mexico State Championship. Both the Boys and Girls teams were the 5A State Champions, the Boys for the 4th year in a row and the Girls for the 6th year in a row.

Going into the meet, it was felt both races would be an even contest between LAHS and Albuquerque Academy – after all, AA had beaten Los Alamos convincingly only two weeks ago at the Home Meet. But both teams were at their best when it counted most and beat AA by a larger margin than anyone anticipated – 43 to 61 for the Boys and 46 to 58 for the Girls (the score is the sum of the places for the top-5 runners of each team, low score wins.)

The ‘Topper Boys were lead by senior Greg Ahlers in 4th place overall, closely followed by seniors Cameron Staples and Forrest White in 5th and 7th. Juniors John Rees and Connor Bailey rounded out the scorers in 13th and 14th. The Girls were lead by junior Maddy Foley in 3rd place overall, followed by junior Sophia Galvez in 7th and freshman Zoe Hemez in 8th. Juniors Talia Dreicer and Nica Vasquez sealed the win in 12th and 16th places.
