The Los Alamos High School varsity soccer teams kicked off their home seasons Tuesday taking on the Bosque Prep Bobcats.

The girls’ game was held up for about 40 minutes because of lightning in the region. Once the whistle blew it did not take long for the Toppers dynamic duo of Sienna Ahlers and Abby Schmalz to score the first goal, Ahlers scored in the 4th minute off an assist from Schmalz.

Defender Valerie Li scored in the 17th minute with a bending shot from about 25 yards out. The score remained 2-0 at halftime. In the 48th minute Ahlers scored again off an assist from Katie Hopkins producing the final score 3-0. Coach Gary Ahlers got to get everyone into the game. The next home action for the girls is Thursday, Sept. 1 when they take on St. Michael’s.

The Topper boys varsity soccer team lost to the Bosque boys one-nil. Bosque scored in the 5th minute off a direct kick by Zech Meddelton that was headed past the Topper goalie by Peter Panagopoulos. Panagopoulos headed the ball with his back to the net. The ensuring action produced no more scores but lots of physical play. The Toppers were given yellow cards four times. The referee also issued several warnings to players and coaches of both teams.
