SPORTS News:

Alison Pimentel of Los Alamos took second place for girls and fourth overall in the New Mexico State High School Trap Competition Dec. 4 in Belen.

Seven shooters from Los Alamos were among 58 students from throughout the state who participated, including Pimentel, Sam Bond, Kevin Dors, Michael Chigaev, Derek Laintz, Bryan Dors and Michael Patchett.

The team is sponsored by the Los Alamos Sportsmen’s Club and 4-H. Coaches are Michael O’Neill, Kathryn Smith and Alan Bond. Shooters range in age from 12 to 18. Youth may join the shotgun at any time during the year but must complete the New Mexico Game and Fish Department hunter education class available online.

Youth indoor archery and small-bore rifle classes are currently being held at the Sportsmen’s Club. There is no cost for the programs except for ammunition and clays for the shotgun program, which averages $20 a class.
