Members of the Los Alamos High School Student Council will journey to the New Mexico Association of Student Council’s Spring Conference, which begins Thursday night at Cibola High School in Albuquerque.
Student Council President Esteban Abeyta and Vice President Jessica Hieroninus told the School Board Tuesday that more than 1,200 students and advisers representing 64 student councils from across the state will attend the three day conference. Abeyta campaigned and won his office at last year’s conference.
“Esteban is going to be really busy at the conference since he’s the president of NMASC,” Hieronimus said.
This year’s theme is “A Leader’s Journey to Rome.” The LAHS Student Council has prepared a banner depicting the theme and a school chant. They’ll compete against the other schools’ representatives at a toga party Friday night, Hieronimus said, adding that during the conference, students will take part in workshops and competitions and here speakers and presentations.
Los Alamos High School will host next year’s state conference.
“It’s going to take a lot of work to get ready,” Abeyta said.
The students also updated the Board on other activities, which include planning the upcoming pep rally and creating a banner with the theme, “what are you going to do before you graduate?” on which students will write their responses.
