LAHS Senior Kaitlin Bennett takes first in the 50 free and 100 free.
SPORTS News:
The Los Alamos High School Hilltoppers Swimming and Diving teams competed Jan. 6-7 at the Lubbock High School Swimming and Diving Invitational at the Pete Ragus Aquatic Center in Lubbock, Texas.
The invitational was a very competitive high school meet, drawing 500 swimmers and divers from across Texas, with teams from greater Dallas, Midland and El Paso.
The Hilltoppers finished 8th among 20 teams in the girls and 11th among 21 teams in the boys.
Four individual Hilltoppers and two relays finished in the top 8:
Senior Kaitlin Bennett bested a large field to capture first place in the 50 free (24.79) and 100 free (54.04).
Senior Alex Jaegers finished 6th in the 100 back (56.32).
Senior diver Liz Lockhart got 7th on the 1m springboard (263.15).
Sophomore Jillian Bennett placed 5th in the 100 breast (1:09.45).
The girls medley relay team of Kaitlin Bennett, Jillian Bennett, Jessica Moore and Sophie Schmidt tied for 5th with 1:57.45, while the Hilltoppers’ 200 freestyle quartet of Jillian Bennett, Jessica Moore, Sophie Schmidt and Kaitlin Bennett finished 7th in 1:45.45. These clockings were season bests for the Hilltoppers.
Senior captain Kaan Unal picked up a state meet standard for the 100 free, leading off the 400 free relay with a 51.68.
Kaitlin Bennett, Jillian Bennett, Liz Lockhart and Alex Jaegers are currently ranked among the league leaders in New Mexico high school swimming and diving.
The Los Alamos Swimming and Diving teams will compete next on January 13-14 at the 19th Annual Albuquerque Academy Invitational.
