Los Alamos High School seniors are invited to the inaugural College Application Boot Camp 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 15 in the Topper Library at LAHS.
“This is the first time we are offering this camp,” school counselor Cristin Haake said. “We are excited about the opportunity to help our students with the college application process.”
The Boot Camp will be set up in a workshop format, with multiple sessions going on at the same time. There will be several sessions on college applications, including how to register for an account on a college website and how to complete the entire application. Students should bring their Chromebooks to the workshop.
School counselors will also offer students sessions on Naviance, including how to perform a search for colleges of interest, adding their resumes, requesting transcript, adding the letter of recomendation checklist, and adding recommenders to their accounts. They will also go through the process of matching the Common Application to Naviance and signing the FERPA waiver. There will also be sessions on the college essay so students are encouraged to bring their essays for editing.
A continental breakfast and light snacks will be served. For more information about the College Application Boot Camp, contact the LAHS Guidance Office at 505.663.2797.
