The Los Alamos High School Chess Team earned their fifth 4A/5A State Championship in seven years. Members of the chess team include seniors Andy Corliss, Phillip Ionkov, Cinyoung Huang, junior Ming Lo, and freshmen Wilson White and Annie White. The team is coached by Wendel Brown. ‘The tournament was conducted online, due to COVID concerns, with teams from Albuquerque Academy, Organ Mountain in Las Cruces, and Piedra Vista in Farmington competing,’ Brown explained. ‘The championship came down to a few tense final games against Academy, with the LAHS team playing brilliant Chess. I am very proud of this team.’ Congratulations! Courtesy photo
