LAHS Athletic Director Accepts Job in Clackamas, Ore.

The Los Alamos Public Schools Athletic Department has announced that Athletic Director Vicki Nelms has resigned. She has accepted the athletic director position at Clackamas High School, in Clackamas, Ore.

Nelms will assume her duties July 1. Clackamas is the fourth largest high school in Oregon and competes at the 6A level. She is replacing Jeff Erdman who is retiring after 14 years as the AD at Clackamas. Nelms has been at Los Alamos High School since the beginning of the 2007 school year. 

During her time at Los Alamos High School, 17 State Championships were won. They were co-champions of the Director’s Cup in 2009 and were runner-ups in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, the highest award that the NMAA gives out each October. In 2013, the magazine Coach and Athletic Director chose Los Alamos Athletic program as one of four schools across the U.S. as Best in Class.

During the past two years Nelms has been president of the New Mexico Athletic Director’s Association. In 2012, she was selected as the New Mexico’s Athletic Director of the Year and in 2013 she was selected the New Mexico High School Coaches Association Athletic Director of the Year. She also has served as the District 2-4AAAA chairperson for the past four years. 

Many of the athletic facilities were improved during her tenure. Sullivan Field added turf, Griffith Gym was updated, the middle school football field added turf and a track was put in. She has continued to bring in professional development for her coaching staff over the past seven years as well. She loved watching the athletes perform and will miss seeing their accomplishments. She strongly supported her coaches and teams and she will be truly be missed.
