The Los Alamos High School swimming and diving teams competed this past weekend Feb. 21-22 in the New Mexico High School State Championship meet at the Albuquerque Academy natatorium.
The girls’ team competed strong, placing 3rd with 218 points, while the boys’ team came in 12th with 94 points.
Sarah Lott lead the charge for the high school team, placing 2nd in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:53.68 (breaking the old LAHS record of 1:55.72 held by both Bridget O’Hara and Katie Schmitt since 2003 and 2004 respectively). She also captured the 2014 New Mexico state title in the 100-yard free with a time of 52.07, breaking her own LAHS record of 53.13 set the previous day in the qualifying round by more than a second.
The girls’ 400 Free relay – which included Maria Venneri, Sydney Schoonover, Isabelle Runde and Sarah Lott – also set a new LAHS record with a time of 3:39.23 – breaking the old record of 3:40.50, held since 2003. All four of these girls are part of Charger Aquatics club team coached by Beverly Leasure.
