LAHS Annual Spring Invite Tees Off Monday

SPORTS News:

Los Alamos High School Golf’s annual Spring Invite is set with a 9 a.m. shotgun Monday, April 14.

Coach Mike Lippiatt said there is a pretty light field this year.

“We had a bunch of teams signed up over one month ago but now this week a lot of the coaches are emailing me, telling me they forgot next week was their schools spring break … so they’re dropping out,” he said. “I’m pretty sure some spring breaks changed this year because we’ve had our spring invite on the same Monday for the past four years and we’ve never had this conflict.”

There will still be seven to nine schools participating although they won’t all be full teams.

“LAHS Girls are looking to win their second tournament in a row, and even though we’ve already qualified for state, we are looking for an even better team score than two weeks ago … and of course another qualifying round,” Lippiatt said. “Johnny Osden has an opportunity to qualify for state next Monday. If he meets or beats the state qualifying target score, he will earn his third leg and will receive passage to the state tourney. If Sean Rau, our 8th grader, can get a qualifying score in next Monday then he will only need one more leg to get to state as well. So … there is a lot riding on Monday’s tournament.”
