Choir Director Jason Rutledge and his 85 Los Alamos Middle School and Los Alamos High School students traveled to Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho April 17-18 to compete in the State Championships.

Three choirs performed or competed including; the LAMS Hawk Choir, LAHS Encore and LAHS Schola Cantorum, now 5A State Champions.

“I am so very proud of this group of students,” Rutledge said. “Countless hours went into preparation this semester. These students really went the extra mile required to have great success.”

He credits their success with their desire to improve as musicians and their many extra hours of rehearsal.

“Also, a huge shout out to my chaperones who took the time out of their busy schedules to make sure all the students who went down to State Competition had a fun and safe time,” he said. “And I would like to thank our Activities Director Ann Stewart, LAHS Principal Dr. Belew-Nyquist, the superintendent and School Board for all of their support this year.”

Rutledge also thanked the staff and teachers at LAHS and LAMS for their kind words and encouragement throughout the year as well as his choir parents and invited everyone to attend their final two year-end performances.

The Middle School Music Department Concert is May 13 and the High School Choral Program’s Spring Concert is May 18. Both events are 7 p.m. at Duane Smith Auditorium.  Admission is free and open to the public.

“This year has been jam-packed with musical adventures from our Europe Trip to State Contest, our kids have had an amazing year, none of which would be possible without this community’s support,” Rutledge said. “Please come join us at our end of the year concerts.”
