Staff Report

Los Alamos High School 9th grader, Jennifer Necker, traveled to Huron, Ohio last week to compete in the 2013 English Setter Association of America annual national show. Necker garnered a 4th place in a competitive Veteran Dog class, for dogs more than seven years old. Her dog, Owen, turned eight in August, although you’d never know it from the way he moves in the show ring and on the agility field.

On Friday, Necker and Owen competed in the junior handling event, for youth under 18 years old. Making club history, she was selected as Best Junior Handler for the third year in a row.

Necker and Owen head to Orlando in December to compete in the AKC National Championships where they are entered in junior showmanship and the owner-handled breed competition. Necker is one of only two New Mexico youth who met the qualification criteria for junior showmanship at the National Championships. She and Owen are also competing in agility. They will compete in the AKC Junior Agility Challenge in Orlando as well.
