Ice Hockey Open To New Players; Registration Fee Waived!

LAHA News:

Los Alamos Hockey Association (LAHA) is happy to inform the community that the ice rink will be open this season solely for the purpose of hockey.

As an added bonus, LAHA will waive all registration fees this year – that means that hockey will be free for all skaters this season after the USA Hockey registration fee is paid.

This will be a very abbreviated season (beginning Dec. 21) and unfortunately will be without games or deliberate contact and with masks at all times, including while on the ice.

The schedule will include strict 1-hour practice slots after which skaters must quickly exit the rink so that the facility can be cleaned between sessions. This is expected to take the full 30 minutes in between sessions. If skaters are delayed in getting off the ice and leaving the rink, the ice time for the next session will be impacted.

There is a preliminary schedule online for all age groups at http://www.lahockey.org.

Traditionally hockey players have had to purchase a season long rink pass, but this year the County has worked out an option that is less cost-prohibitive. Before coming to the rink, players will need to purchase a skating punch pass from the Aquatic Center or online at County Punch Pass Purchase Site.  The cost is $33.75 for 10 visits (no discounts for multiple family members).

It is anticipated that LAHS will be able to have ice until Feb. 15, which is approximately seven weeks. Right now, there is one practice session a week but hopefully that will increase to two per week.

The final schedule will be revised as soon as registration is complete. Players must purchase their punch pass in advance of the season as they will not be able to do so at the rink.

In order to adhere to the safety protocols of the rink, spectators will not be allowed during this season. This includes around the rink walls or on the premises anywhere at this time.

LAHA is optimistic that if the County returns to “green” status, fans might be allowed in the rink.

Registration is online only. Go to the LAHA website at LAHA Registration Link. First, register the player with USA Hockey and pay a fee of $46 per player. Once that is completed, registrants will be directed to return to the LAHA registration page to complete their registration.

For those in need of hockey equipment, for a minimal fee LAHS has gear available to rent 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 and 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13. Players will need to register for a 15-minute slot for each player using the sign up for Gear Rental.  Players will be able to rent gear if they are a first-time player or return/exchange gear if they have played before, but everyone needs to have an individual time slot.

Player must arrive on time as each payer will be  outfitted individually.

Masks are required, and players will not be rented gear if they arrive without a mask.
